Episode 34 – The Academics of Leadership with Dr. Brian Simmons
Patrick and Dr. Brian Simmons, Associate Provost at Columbia International University, discuss the value of a Ph.D. in leadership, some core tenets of leadership, and the academics of leadership, among many other topics.
Dr. Simmons is a visionary builder with a personal mission to further the kingdom of God through Christian education, teaching, and influencing others. Currently, he is leading Online Studies during an exciting season of growth at Columbia International University (89 online students to 1269). This growth includes over 240 new online courses supporting 26 online degrees. The newest is their 27 month Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership that has grown to over 200 students in the first 18 months. The newest online degree programs in the pipeline are a Masters in Healthcare Administration, Masters in Public Administration, and nursing.
As Dr. Simmons enters the third “season” of his professional career, he strives to lead well and develop his team toward the achievement of stretch goals as a senior leader at CIU, training and mentoring those working with him and coming behind him to effectively serve in various leadership roles similar to the ones in which he has served during the first two seasons of his career.
